Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
