Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
