Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
