Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
