Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
