Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
