Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
