Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
