Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
