Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
