Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
