Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
