Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
