Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
