Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
