Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
