Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
