Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
