Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
