Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
