Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
