Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
