Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
