Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
