Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
