Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
