Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
