Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
