Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
