Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
