Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
