Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
