Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
