Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
