Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
