Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
