Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
