Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
