Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
