Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
