Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
