Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
