Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
