Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
