Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
