Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
