Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
