Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
