Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
