Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
